Willow Brook Farm

Size in Acres:

Existing Infrastructure:
Within Alta Sierra but zoned horse farm. It used to be called Willow Brook Farms before Alta Sierra was built. There are two barns, a greenhouse, small orchard, large house, and lots of Rattlesnake creek frontage
Housing:

Location

Alta Sierra, CA 95949
United States
39° 8' 41.7912" N, 121° 3' 26.622" W
Description of Property:
I own an old horse farm that survived the Alta Sierra subdivision and is 12 acres at 11054 Ball Rd along Rattlesnake Creek. I rent out the house, which is quite large, and barns, greenhouse etc. The tenant family there is open to negotiate a farmer to live in one part of it. I expect them to be leaving one time and I will probably turn it into a community house like I did with one in Grass Valley. This might be a possibility for an energetic and reliable up and coming farmer. I could provide some support for getting started.
Additional Notes:
I have a BS in Ag Science (means very little today) and a fairly extensive background in appropriate technology.

Full sun exposure and good soil, my property is an old orchard land that I am re-vamping to become a viable food producer. It already has Apples, Walnuts, a Peach and an Apricot Tree in the ground and several Nectarines, another Peach and a 3 in one Plum in pots and ready to go in the ground.
Additional Notes:
I would require one tenth of the food produced to somehow be alloted to the poor in our community.

Steyer Land

Size in Acres:
2.5
Existing Infrastructure:
All the property is deer fenced. There is NID water available.

Location

Penn Valley, CA 95946
United States
39° 13' 8.2956" N, 121° 12' 16.9056" W
Description of Property:
Open space but with surrounding trees that provide some shade at times through the day. My land has great sun exposure. It is completely fenced so the deer can't get in unless the main gate is left open. There are some old apricot trees, one old plum and an old apple tree. The land was owned originally be two avid gardeners. They put in the fruit trees. They also had a wonderful garden that has good soil. The other parts of the land has rocky composite soil, but with a lot of great light and sun exposure. The original owners grew lots of strawberries and other typical garden vegetables. I have a small area near my house that I can manage, but I would love to offer other areas of my land for someone to use as a garden, a CSA, or a community garden.
Additional Notes:
I would love to see the land used more efficiently. I would be open to having a small group farm the land, to offer a CSA, or a community garden if the right group of people were interested. It is easy to access my land and enough removed from the house that it feels private for everyone. I'm very excited about this idea of offering my land for someone to work. My grandfather was a farmer in Nebraska, so I come from a line of people who worked the land. I'd like that to continue.

Bill and Clarita Nolan

Size in Acres:
30
Existing Infrastructure:
Small mixed orchard and terraces with raised beds surrounded by deer fence. Drip irrigation installed. All existing irrigation is supplied by a well that pumps water uphill to a 2500 gal. tank which then gravity feeds down. There is an accessible irrigation ditch at the bottom of the property.
Housing:
Space for a trailer or two.

Location

Browns Valley, CA 95918
United States
39° 14' 54.816" N, 121° 20' 46.662" W
Description of Property:
Very near Hwy 20 at the Parks Bar Bridge and a UC Davis agricultural field station. The property is zoned AR15 and consists of 30 total acres from 300' to 840' elevation, sloping down to the west with great southern exposure and incredible views. It is oak grassland with blue oaks, gray pines and little brush. Our house is at 600' elevation. The lower part of the property is the most level and could accommodate cows, horses, sheep, goats, or llamas, or be used to grow grains. 650' of deer fencing surrounds orchard and raised bed area just below the house. The orchard consists of 16 fruit trees of different types, including citrus. The large house pad area has plenty of room for chickens and smaller animals. The soil is rocky clay.
Additional Notes:
My wife and I have found that we are able to do very little by ourselves to develop the property's great agricultural potential. We would love to partner with someone who would wish to care for the fruit trees, plant the raised beds, and use other parts of the property for farming or livestock. We are very supportive of Permaculture principles, organic and sustainable farming. This land could produce a LOT of food!

Dry Creek Herb Farm

Size in Acres:
11
Existing Infrastructure:
3000 sq ft ranch house; caretaker's cabin (occupied); garden shed/farm stand; herb gardens; large garden space; apple, plum, fig, olive orchard; large greensward (lawn) for events; creek/pond; large mint field between house & road; NID; barn; fencing.
Housing:
negotiable

Location

Grass Valley, CA 95949
United States
39° 2' 31.4232" N, 121° 5' 46.482" W
Description of Property:
The property is both flat and sloped. It faces NE. In the afternoons there is shade from the hill in the west. The garden area has been worked for decades, and the orchard is old. There are herb gardens in place. The soil surrounding the house is fertile, and easy to farm. There is an old farm wagon from the 1800's that would be great for...and, there is an old wind mill from North Dakota in the mint field. The soil up on the hill is is typical Nevada County clay, but has been used for grains in the past. NID (open ditch) runs the length of the property.
Additional Notes:
This land is the last undeveloped parcel on the corner of Wolf Road and Hwy 49. Everyone who is traveling from Auburn to Grass Valley drives by. It is a community landmark. It was well-populated by the natives before us, and we want to honor that spirit. We are developing classes/apprenticeships linking spirit, art, herbs, and our environment. I am an Environmental Art Therapist, and my classes will offer CEU's. My vision is for a healed self within a healed world. We would like to lease parcels to farmers, and they would have use of the "Seed Sanctuary Farm Stand." They would have the privilege to teaching classes also, if desired. We are looking to collaborate with those with farming passion and experience - and who hold a strong commitment to assist in the healing of our beautiful Earth.
