Land is a part of Grand Island in the Sacramento River Delta. Property is very flat and soil is clay loam with a bit more clay than loam but overall good composition. Owner is reclaiming her land from use of conventional farmer to open up to sustainable small farms. First area of property being developed is a 27 acre field. Description of Property:
Various sites in the Fair Oaks/Orangevale and surrounding areas. 2 sites available now. One roughly 1/4 acre. Second is aprox. 1 acre with possibility for more. There are other sites being discussed. Soils vary. Good exposure. Various former uses; Other sites are strictly for harvesting tree crops. Would like to work others interested in farming/harvesting these sites.
Additional Notes:
I grew up in this area. Lots of sites available. Used to have a lot of farming here. There are also lots of orchards who are owned by elderly who can not harvest them. Oranges, grapefruit, meyer lemons and persimmons are ready to harvest. I harvest, leave what's needed for family and distribute their rest to locals in need. Remainder can be sold wholesale. Have agreement with local business to sell at their store. Folks in Fair Oaks are clamoring for local produce. Also a fair amount of Weston Price members. Will work on photos. Do not currently have camera. Michael Eastman Kersten - Ph. (916) 987-2854

Bill and Clarita Nolan

Size in Acres:
30
Existing Infrastructure:
Small mixed orchard and terraces with raised beds surrounded by deer fence. Drip irrigation installed. All existing irrigation is supplied by a well that pumps water uphill to a 2500 gal. tank which then gravity feeds down. There is an accessible irrigation ditch at the bottom of the property.
Housing:
Space for a trailer or two.

Location

Browns Valley, CA 95918
United States
39° 14' 54.816" N, 121° 20' 46.662" W
Description of Property:
Very near Hwy 20 at the Parks Bar Bridge and a UC Davis agricultural field station. The property is zoned AR15 and consists of 30 total acres from 300' to 840' elevation, sloping down to the west with great southern exposure and incredible views. It is oak grassland with blue oaks, gray pines and little brush. Our house is at 600' elevation. The lower part of the property is the most level and could accommodate cows, horses, sheep, goats, or llamas, or be used to grow grains. 650' of deer fencing surrounds orchard and raised bed area just below the house. The orchard consists of 16 fruit trees of different types, including citrus. The large house pad area has plenty of room for chickens and smaller animals. The soil is rocky clay.
Additional Notes:
My wife and I have found that we are able to do very little by ourselves to develop the property's great agricultural potential. We would love to partner with someone who would wish to care for the fruit trees, plant the raised beds, and use other parts of the property for farming or livestock. We are very supportive of Permaculture principles, organic and sustainable farming. This land could produce a LOT of food!
